Wellness Corner: Men’s Health Tips

June is Men’s Health Month and we wanted to provide tips for the men in our network and for others to pass along to the men in their lives.
Awareness months serve as a good refresher for things to be mindful of when it comes to our health. While we may hear health and wellness tips regularly, the key to implementing something new is repetition, so set reminders to remember the advice below.
1. Go to the Doctor
Men may often avoid proactive checkups or only go to the doctor once a condition escalates. Scheduling annual check-ups will not only help prevent or treat health concerns, but it can also give you peace of mind that your health is up-to-date when you receive your results.
2. Wear Sunscreen!
Spending time outside working out, golfing, doing household chores, or working outdoors, puts men in the sun even more during the Spring/Summer. Leave sunscreen somewhere visible in your bathroom or a place that will remind you to apply it to exposed areas before you leave the house. In addition to preventing skin cancer, it can also prevent wrinkles.
3. Pay Attention to What Products You’re Using
Did you know the skincare industry is unregulated? The US only has approximately 40 banned products, while other countries ban up to 1,800! Take a look at the ingredients on the back of your products to avoid things like fragrances, parabens, and sulfates. We recommend a brand such as Beautycounter to ensure you’re buying clean. They even have a toxin-free sunscreen line!
4. Communicate More
Often it’s easier to avoid a problem than address it head-on. Although this may relieve anxiousness in the moment, it can start to weigh on your mental health. Challenge yourself to communicate how you are feeling in order to get the results you want. For example, using phrases like “I feel (blank) when you say (blank)” in your home life. Or letting your team know why you are having them work on a project and how it will impact the company will make them feel part of the bigger picture and inclined to put more effort in when they feel invested.
