Every year I try to take a trip that inspires me. This month I went to Bali and continued onto Australia (where I’m currently writing this month’s entry!)
One thing I realized on this trip though is anything filling your mind will go with you, no matter where the location. Often we may seek external things to create happiness or fulfillment, but that can only be found internally. This has it’s PROs and CONs. The PROs are- 1) we have control over our own internal peace 2) its free of charge and 3) you don’t have to travel anywhere for it.
The CON is- it’s some of the hardest work to do.
SO HOW CAN WE BUILD MORE INTERNAL PEACE?
- Create more silence– Even if you aren’t the meditating type, giving yourself the gift of more silence can yield similar results. What that could look like is going for a walk without music, starting the day with some self-reflection (sans your cell phone)…or just closing your eyes at points during the day and taking a few deep breaths. It doesn’t have to be sitting in silence for 30 minutes, just try to incorporate more silence in your day.
- Focus on the good– I tend to think our minds default to what’s wrong as a protection mechanism. If we can start to catch ourselves doing this and reframe to focus on something positive in that moment, it can shift our mood to a state of positivity.
- Journal– Writing things down allows us to free our minds of clutter, by getting our thoughts onto paper. It also allows us to go back and reflect on what we wrote weeks and months ago to see how we are progressing, celebrate any wins and shift priorities along the way.
This month, I hosted a journaling goal setting class to outline what we want to accomplish in 2024. If you’d like access to these journaling prompts, send me a note at: georgia@dailydose-wellness.com.
The more you strengthen your “inner peace muscle” the easier it will become to pull the good out of situations throughout the year. And if you haven’t already this month, do something that inspires you. It doesn’t have to be a trip; it could be reading a book, listening to a podcast, seeing a show, meeting up with a friend who lifts you up or taking a new class. Do an activity or listen to something that inspires you to set your tone for 2024 and fills your cup before too many months go by.
