For more than 60 years, our SHRM Affiliate Chapter has provided area HR professionals the opportunity to connect with our peers, to develop professionally and to give back to our community. Throughout our existence, while our commitment has remained the same, our methods to achieve these goals have evolved as technology, our community, businesses and members demand.
We’ve invested in improving programming over the last several years. Our focus on offering relevant, high quality speakers and topics was driven by you, our valued members. We have a track record of listening and responding to your needs. Today, what we are delivering is part of our continued effort of conscious evolution, based on what you and the HR profession demand. Through our recent member survey, we heard your desire to see this organization continue to progress and to improve, and that includes advancing and elevating our brand. We heard you, and took action.
After evaluating the survey results, our board engaged the help of a professional organization, Angel Oak Creative. We interviewed several firms and selected Angel Oak because of their unique experience serving nonprofits. As Angel Oak puts it, “We believe people matter. And that’s what sets us apart. Not only are we brand builders and strategic thinkers, but we’re also experts in what uniquely works for nonprofits…our vision is to create passionately engaged communities through clear and effective nonprofit communication.”
With the help of our dedicated communications committee, the 2018 Board of Directors and Angel Oak, we set out to improve our communication methods and contemporize our brand. The results of these efforts will enable us to better articulate who we are and the value we offer our members. Candidly, we didn’t expect to identify the need for such a large shift, but when faced with the challenge, we took it head on. And we’re thrilled to announce a truly exciting advancement for our Chapter: Raleigh Wake Human Resources Management Association is now Raleigh Metro SHRM!
While our name has changed, our commitment to providing the same award-winning, nationally recognized quality programming as well as our commitment to elevating the practice and profession of HR remains as focused and strong as ever.
In support of our new name, we are also excited to launch supporting materials and resources. We have a new logo and a completely modernized website! Additionally, we will have new print materials available at our meetings, and we will be providing some fun branded goodies at upcoming events.
You may be curious about some of the reasons behind our big change. First, we found that we were in a very small minority of SHRM affiliate Chapters that did not reference SHRM in their name. Second, not only is our old name a mouthful, but it also no longer accurately represents our geographical footprint.
Raleigh Metro SHRM more accurately communicates where we serve as well as alleviates any confusion about our affiliation with the national SHRM organization. Raleigh Metro SHRM, is a sleek, concise new name that makes it easier for you to clearly communicate who we are and what we do. So whether it’s your boss asking where you’ll be going during that extended lunch on Tuesday, or someone new to the area looking to connect with local HR professionals, you’ll be prepared!
What’s next? You’ll see announcements through all of our communication channels, as well as some SHRM affiliate required actions coming your way, including a vote on our updated bylaws. Additionally, as you are renewing your SHRM memberships, you may see a slight delay in the update to our name in their system. Our Chapter number will remain 0132, and please note that any reference on their site to RWHRMA is RMSHRM—they are one and the same until all updates have been made on their end.
As we walk through this process together, you will find that those things you appreciate most about Raleigh Metro SHRM are not only still present, but also improved. As a memberled organization, we also invite your continued feedback. Contact information has been provided below, and any of our board members would be happy to answer questions for you.
